The Moonflower Herald

*insert trumpet fanfare* (Hey I’ve done that before…)

Hello everyone! I’ve recently decided to write news articles for my novel—not for just my readers, but for my characters, too! The following article is the first one featured in my novel, and the one that is published after this is the figurative and literal herald in my storyline!

“A herald archetype is a character who brings important new information to your protagonist. Their role in a story is to usher in a message that the hero can't ignore, and which kicks off the next stage of their hero's journey.”

—Scribophile

Thank you, Scribophile, for that definition. *winks* What would we do without you? Anyway, this terrible, terrible news scares Clementine, but it’s not until two weeks later (September 10th) that the adventure begins at last…

Oleander’s Summit: Diplomacy Dismissed, War Declared!

September 1st, 1924

By Ruby Ravenwood

Moonflower Valley, A New Resolve

In a historic gathering at the main palace of Moonflower Valley, Regent Oleander extended a hand of peace to the rulers of Starlight Glade, West Wood, and Windstorm Isles. However, what began as a hopeful summit quickly transformed into a declaration of war, revealing the bloodthirsty nature of our neighbors.

After three long hours of discussion, it became evident that the other kingdoms are unwilling to embrace harmony. Oleander faced a wall of hostility rather than the cooperation he sought. As the six rulers departed the palace, they left behind a clear message: peace between the kingdoms was denied.

In a powerful address to our citizens, Oleander proclaimed the failure of diplomacy and announced the rallying of our forces for imminent conflict. “We sought peace,” he stated resolutely, “but instead, we have been met with violence! We will not stand idle while our kingdom is threatened by the brethren that murdered our late rulers.”

This bold statement resonates in the hearts of our citizens, who stand united behind our regent. The bravery and tenacity of our warriors will be pivotal as we prepare to defend our beloved Moonflower Valley against these hostile realms. The time for negotiation has passed; now we will secure our future through brute strength.

Oleander’s call to arms emphasizes his commitment to protect our land and our people. “Let it be known,” he declared, “that we will rise as one against those who seek to undermine our greatness. Moonflower Valley will not back down!”

As we brace for the storm ahead, the spirit of our kingdom shines brightly. The strength of our unity will be the foundation upon which we build our victory. Let our enemies beware: the might of Moonflower Valley is upon them!

So? What do you guys think?! I quite like it, and it totally adds a mysterious edge to the conflict. What do you think is good? What could use some work? Let me know in the comments!
