Take a Break
Yikes!! A late post!! Hey guys, this week has been busy as far as life goes, but really slow as far as my writing is concerned. However, I’ve started Rainpelt and Sunray’s character profiles. I haven’t really touched my WIP in about, well, a week, and I’ve instead been writing slam poetry—just busting it out left and right, if I’m being quite honest. My middle school is hosting this slam poetry competition between every grade, which is what inspired me to write these.
Monday was the main performance, and there were a lot of amazing poems between my classmates. I remember one specific one that made my heart shatter into millions of tiny pieces. It was so vulnerable and raw and my friend, she’s so tough and nonchalant and it just… broke me. It broke me. I wrote and performed a poem titled “We’re Better Than This”. I was… really good. *flips hair* Seriously, though. I came in second place in my class, which means I will not, unfortunately, be advancing to the competition. Ah well. Hopefully they’ll do something like this at my high school next year!
Writing all this poetry has me thinking that I should publish a book of poems. I think it would be a fun project (one that should take me about a year) and a really cute keepsake at the end.
Some other interesting recent developments include…. I’m a beta reader/copy editor! :D Two of my friends reached out to me last week; one asking for feedback on her ongoing project, and the other asking for an editor for the final book in her series. Isn’t that exciting?? I’ll let you guys know when her book is published ;)
I’m thinking about taking a break from editing SMV for a few different reasons. One: I need to finish writing out my character notes before I can continue. Two: I want to write poetry, not prose, for a little while. Three: I have a lot of ideas for mini projects that I want to pursue without feeling guilty about not progressing with SMV. And that’s pretty much it. While I take an editing break, I will still be working on character profiles, scene ideas (as they come to me), and I may even continue plotting out my second and third books. We’ll see.
That’s all for today. You can expect to get a blog post on time next week—I’ve set a series of reminder alarms on my phone to avoid future late posts. I hope you enjoyed reading, and I’ll see you next week!

P.S. Have any of you written any poetry lately? Do you prefer reading or writing poetry—or is it not really your style?
