Character Development Take Two!

So I’ve been thinking a lot about my characters recently—and the fact that there’s not much for me to think about—and decided that my old character sheet sucked. Like—okay, let me explain. It’s not that it’s trash, but my questions were way too vague.

“Tell me ten things that your character likes and dislike.”

I CAN’T EVEN ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS FOR MYSELF AND I EXIST IN FLESH AND BLOOD. *takes a breath and a chill-pill* Anyway, yeah. Those all-encompassing questions aren’t getting me anywhere, and I don’t know if they really got you guys anywhere either. So I went back to the drawing board and made a discovery.

Character Prompts. These are beautiful, multiple-sentence questions that are extremely specific, yet tell a lot about your characters. For example, ‘Is your character a hugger?’ Whether you go off on a long, multiple paragraph response or a simple yes or no, you’re finding out that either “Okay, this guy likes to be hugged and is an outgoing/confident person” or “Well, he’s shy and maybe he doesn’t appreciate physical touch as much as the next person”. See? Isn’t that so much easier!?!?

So I crafted a new Character Worksheet and I, personally, appreciate this one a lot more. What do you think?

I hope that this one is more helpful than my last one! See you guys next week!

*In a conspiratory tone* Just so you know, I’ve started posting character development prompts Monday through Friday on the forum. So once you’re done with this sheet, you might wanna check it out.
